The Story

Indian River’s vision for the future of community health was bold: deliver coordinated, patient-centered care in a campus setting that fosters wellness, trust, and healing.

To realize this vision, Array led a rapid planning process that helped hospital leadership evaluate both strategic and site-level options for development. Once a location was selected, the team engaged stakeholders through design workshops and Lean-led sessions—mapping patient and provider flows, visualizing programming needs, and codifying ideal user experiences.

Situated adjacent to an existing radiation oncology pavilion, the new Cancer Center builds on a foundation of clinical strength while redefining the arrival experience. The Health & Wellness Center, anchored by a sweeping glass entry and a reimagined concierge-style registration model, promotes the medical fitness center concept and supports care coordination across specialties.

Design Insight

Designed to both complement and elevate the campus experience, the two buildings are connected not only programmatically, but experientially—through clear wayfinding, cohesive materiality, and shared outdoor space. A healing garden bridges the centers, offering a place of respite and reflection for patients, caregivers, and families alike.

Inside, the Cancer Center features warm, light-filled treatment areas that balance clinical precision with personal comfort. The layout supports multi-modality clinics, radiation therapy, infusion, and education spaces, with visual access to greenery and natural light serving as a positive distraction.

The Health & Wellness Center reinforces the Healthy Living program through its architecture—embedding integrative medicine, education, and fitness in a unified environment. Flexible clinical pods and adjacent support zones reflect the hospital’s commitment to collaboration, privacy, and operational efficiency.
