The Story

Transforming an existing property into a high-performance outpatient cancer center required strategic planning, technical precision, and a clear focus on patient experience. Array helped NYU Langone create a serene, light-filled facility that brings radiation oncology and infusion treatment together in a convenient Brooklyn location.

The building’s new exterior expression, including full re-cladding and expansive glass, establishes a strong clinical identity while bringing daylight into the patient experience. Inside, a new vestibule and reception area create a clear arrival sequence and connect both levels of the program with intuitive circulation for patients, visitors, and staff.

On the ground floor, radiation therapy spaces support efficient patient flow, private changing areas, and access to advanced treatment planning technologies. Infusion services are located on the second floor, where 24 bays, fast-track infusion spaces, and dedicated staff zones create a comfortable, daylight-rich care environment. A double-height lobby visually connects the two floors, reinforcing continuity across the patient journey.

Design Insight

The project demonstrates how an existing building can be thoughtfully adapted to support highly specialized cancer care. Array strategically integrated critical healthcare infrastructure, including lead-shielded radiation therapy vaults and a USP 797/800 compounding pharmacy, while maintaining a focus on daylight, intuitive circulation, and brand expression.

Sustainable strategies were prioritized throughout, and the project was designed to meet LEED Silver standards. Low-emitting materials, carbon dioxide monitoring, high-efficiency lighting, and a blue-roof stormwater system support the center’s long-term performance goals.
