The Story

EmblemHealth sought to expand access to care in East New York, where outdated facilities and fragmented services posed barriers to health equity. Array responded with a bold yet pragmatic design, transforming a high-profile, transit-accessible site into a state-of-the-art health hub.

The building was developed as a slab-on-grade structure with no below-grade levels, integrating a robust ground-floor program that includes an urgent care center, imaging suite, lab, pharmacy, insurance center, and community-facing services. A neighborhood care center with a dedicated entrance occupies part of the first floor and connects to specialty services. Planning strategies emphasized flexibility to accommodate evolving care models while delivering an elevated experience to all who enter.

Parametrically folded curtain walls shape the exterior, designed not only for dramatic visual impact but to mitigate solar gain. Waiting areas line the west facade, offering views toward Manhattan through articulated glazing. Inside, modular planning, adaptive MEP systems, and intuitive wayfinding support operational efficiency. Infusion bays, exam rooms, and support spaces were tailored for comfort and connection.

More than a building, the East New York Health Hub is a commitment to revitalizing care infrastructure for a growing, dynamic community.
