Jefferson Health transformed a former corporate facility at the Philadelphia Navy Yard into its first multispecialty outpatient clinic, creating a flexible, welcoming destination that expands access to care in a rapidly growing urban district.
Jefferson Health, in partnership with Aegis Project Management, transformed a former corporate facility at the Philadelphia Navy Yard into its first multispecialty outpatient clinic. Previously home to the NBA’s 76ers and Tastykake Baking Company, the building offered a recognizable workplace setting in a rapidly growing urban district.
Working within the constraints of an existing commercial structure, the project team leveraged mock-ups, Lean planning strategies, and deep user engagement to create a cohesive, future-ready care environment aligned with Jefferson’s consumer-oriented vision. Achieving consensus across multiple specialties and departments, the design prioritized coordinated care and operational efficiency without sacrificing hospitality and warmth.
To support this transformation, the renovation incorporated a new communicating stair, upgraded MEP systems, fireproofing improvements, and elevator enhancements. Curvilinear elements, soft lighting, and bright materials were used throughout the interiors to soften the industrial edges of the original building.
The result is a vibrant, flexible outpatient destination that expands access to care while speaking equally to patients from South Philadelphia, young professionals in the Navy Yard, and mobility-challenged visitors seeking comfort, clarity, and connection.
