Mount Sinai Health System | Klingenstein Clinical Center CCU and Neuro ICU

Array collaborated with Mount Sinai Health System on a series of revitalization efforts within the Klingenstein Clinical Center and Guggenheim Pavilion in Manhattan. These interior renovation projects addressed a range of patient care needs—from neuro-intensive care to cardiac support—while modernizing aging infrastructure, improving daylighting, and supporting efficient workflows.

The Story

Across all units, thoughtful planning and design strategies were employed to elevate clinical functionality and enhance the experience of patients, families, and care teams.

Klingenstein Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit

A full transformation of the Klingenstein Clinical Center’s 9th floor created a new neurosurgery ICU for patients with complex neurological conditions. The modernized unit supports Mount Sinai’s “Patient First” care initiative with advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities in a high-acuity environment designed for safety, visibility, and responsive care.

Guggenheim CCU and CVICU Units

Renovations to the Guggenheim Pavilion’s 5th floor updated the central east and west coronary care units, creating 12 private patient rooms, including two isolation rooms. Full-view sliding doors provide clear visibility and direct access for care teams, while same-handed room layouts enhance consistency, staff efficiency, and infection control.

Klingenstein Cardiology Department

Renovations to the 7th floor improved clinical and support spaces for the cardiology department, including executive offices, shared researcher zones, and departmental support functions. Translucent demountable partitions introduce daylight while maintaining privacy. A 10-bed cardiac care unit and a critical care unit were concurrently created on the floor below.

Klingenstein Medical/Surgical Unit

The 6th floor renovation created a new 20-bed medical nursing unit with private rooms, including four step-down or observation-capable rooms. Same-handed room design, improved wayfinding, and code-compliant upgrades aligned the unit with current healthcare guidelines, while a connecting bridge to the Guggenheim Pavilion improves workflow and patient movement.
