Redeemer Health | Senior Behavioral Health Unit
Array helped Redeemer Health transform a former pediatric unit into a secure, uplifting geriatric behavioral health space designed around patient dignity, comfort, mobility, engagement, and safety.
At Holy Redeemer Health, Array Architects facilitated a series of Lean design events to analyze the existing state of the unit, map opportunities, and collaboratively define an ideal future state. The design vision prioritized reducing features that detract from patient experience and enhancing those that support autonomy and calm. Because the former pediatric unit had low floor-to-floor and ceiling heights, Array focused on maximizing ceiling height in public areas, installing new HVAC systems, and using finishes that promote a warm and homelike atmosphere.
Specialized features for the senior behavioral population include memory boxes, color-changing over-bed lighting, and bedroom display portals for photos or mementos to aid with orientation and recognition. Activity spaces and alcoves with sensory elements—such as calming lighting, airflow, and graphics—create moments of respite throughout the unit. Wide corridors with handrails, ADA-compliant rooms, and enhanced clearances support mobility and access for both patients and staff.
