NewYork-Presbyterian | Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York
Modernizing a legacy facility, this series of inpatient renovations across three interconnected buildings enhances the hospital’s ability to deliver advanced pediatric care in a highly coordinated, family-centered environment. Design continuity and future-forward infrastructure upgrades support long-term clinical flexibility and operational excellence.
Located across three buildings ranging in age from 15 to 100 years, Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital required significant modernization to keep pace with evolving standards of pediatric care. Array Architects conducted feasibility studies and designed renovations across several key areas: the Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU, Antepartum Unit, Subspecialty Clinics, and Imaging. The design approach prioritized clinical integration, family comfort, and a cohesive brand experience, all within the spatial and infrastructure constraints of a dense urban hospital campus.
Each inpatient unit was planned with a decentralized nursing model and built-in flexibility to support varied acuity levels. Infrastructure improvements—including new CFM units and upgrades to critical spaces such as the OR and MRI—were carefully coordinated to future-proof building systems and reduce downtime. Together, these updates support the hospital’s mission to deliver leading-edge care in a healing, adaptable, and operationally resilient environment.
Pediatric ICU
10,750 SF renovation featuring 14 private rooms with decentralized nursing, oversized daybeds for family members, and in-room refrigerators to support extended family stays.
Neonatal ICU
12,500 SF renovation with 17 beds (expandable to 22), including 7 private rooms and five 2-bed pods. The layout supports ECMO services and provides a quiet, restorative environment for vulnerable newborns.
