Kaiser Permanente | Mid-Atlantic States Regional Laboratory
This long-term replacement facility was constructed on the same site as the aging regional laboratory it replaces. The 65,000 SF project consolidated multiple lab disciplines into a resilient, highly automated facility designed to support long-term growth. The phased approach allowed for construction while maintaining critical operations on-site.
To strengthen diagnostic capabilities across its network, Kaiser Permanente invested in a modern regional laboratory to replace its aging infrastructure—on the very site it occupied. Through careful planning and phased construction, operations continued uninterrupted while the new facility took shape.
The three-story lab consolidates microbiology, hematology, molecular diagnostics, and chemistry, enabling streamlined workflows and operational efficiency. It was designed for flexibility, with centralized support cores and vertically integrated flows to accommodate future automation upgrades and technology enhancements.
Resilient infrastructure and flexible zones support evolving staffing models and throughput demands, while the lab’s design targets LEED Gold certification—reinforcing Kaiser Permanente’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and wellness.
