Cooper University Health Care | Neuro-Interventional Radiology Suite
Cooper partnered with Array to create a first-of-its-kind acute stroke and neuro-interventional suite within an active emergency department, integrating advanced imaging to reduce time-to-table for critical stroke care.
Cooper University Health Care, a leading academic medical system, operates one of the busiest Level-1 trauma centers in the region at Cooper University Hospital in Camden. To strengthen its response to time-sensitive neurological events, Cooper partnered with Array to design a new acute stroke and neuro-interventional suite within the hospital’s emergency department. A first of its kind in the U.S., the suite integrates state-of-the-art technology, infrastructure, and medical equipment to significantly reduce time-to-table for critical stroke patients.
Anchoring the suite is a biplane angiography system paired with a CT on rails that seamlessly slides between the neuro-interventional suite and the adjacent CT room. This configuration enables physicians to combine angio, CT, and ultrasound imaging in real time, enhancing care coordination and enabling dynamic imaging during procedures. A lead-lined telescopic door between the two rooms allows flexible access, while dual control rooms facilitate CT operation from either side. To decant the space required for this suite, the hospital’s displaced X-Ray modality was strategically relocated. Across the corridor, a new patient waiting area with two prep/recovery bays expands the suite’s capacity and throughput.
The renovation was completed within an active emergency department and demanded precise phasing and innovative design strategies. The team overcame significant physical constraints—including existing MEP infrastructure and limited ceiling heights—while integrating highly complex clinical workflows and equipment into a compact footprint. The result is a unified, high-performance environment that strengthens Cooper’s leadership in acute neuro care.
